Starting Your Ford With A Smartphone

June 24th, 2013

Smartphone KeyfobYou can do some pretty amazing things with smartphones these days. In a world where your phone can be – among other things – an encyclopedia, GPS and a personal assistant, Ford is entering a new frontier of mobile technology with the Remote Access application for select Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

This aftermarket add-on from Ford Custom Accessories turns your iPhone or Android device into a virtual keyfob. With the Remote Access app, you can lock, unlock and even remote start your vehicle from across the parking lot, or across the country. You can even use the Find feature to flash the lights and honk the horn if, perhaps, you don’t remember exactly where you left it at the mall.

Did you leave your car in one of those big airport parking decks or in a sketchy-looking lot downtown? The Remote Access app also helps you rest a little easier with optional email/text security alerts. That’s right, your car can text or email you to check in and let you know if there’s a security breach.

See the Mustang that Never Hit the Production Line

June 24th, 2013

MustangConceptMore than 50 years ago, a group of designers put pencil to paper with a new kind of sports car in mind. Lee Iacocca wanted something fresh, sporty, and easy on the wallet—something for the emerging market of teenagers who simply wouldn’t settle for their grandma’s Fairlane.

What they created turned a lot of heads, but never made it past the concept stage. The drawings and early models featured sleek lines, pointed ends and a road-hugging frame. At the time, it looked like a vehicle for a new era (or from another planet).

What Do the Ford Model A and Escape Have in Common?

June 24th, 2013

Hands-Free LiftgateWhat do the Model A and the Escape have in common? True, they are both Ford vehicles. But they also have both utilized cutting-edge tailgate/liftgate technology — well, at least the Model A did back in the day! It was 1929, and the Model A used a chain-link drop-down tailgate. Then when the 1950s rolled around, the Country Squire Wagon used counterbalancing hinges with push-button open. The ‘60s were roaring, even in the liftgate world – Ford debuted the Fairlane Falcon magic liftgate that would both swing down andto the side. The Bronco saw a swinging latch, fold-up window and drop-down tailgate in 1977, followed two years later by the electronically operated roll-down rear window.

Now it’s the Escape making the most with its advancements, showcasing a history of liftgage innovation. First, a separate pneumatic liftgate and window opening in 2001, followed by the handy and downright cool technology of 2013: an available hands-free power liftgate.

Ford Explorer Charges Through Olympic National Park

June 10th, 2013

Ford Explorer in the WildWe at Borgman Ford love the outdoors. Nothing beats a summertime drive into the heart of nature, and Ford has the best cars around for exploring! Check out this article in My Ford Magazine about author Jeff Wise’s journey through Olympic National Park in a Ford Explorer.

As we press deeper into the forest, the forms around us grow taller, stranger, more deeply enveloping. Crooked limbs overhead are draped with fluorescent green moss. Massive columnlike trunks swoop up to disappear into the canopy far above. “Pound for pound, there’s three times as much life in this rain forest as you’d find in a tropical one,” says ecologist Jamie Glasgow, riding beside me in the front passenger seat. We bump over a pothole in the rutted dirt road, dodging limbs and branches. “Each tree supports several tons of moss, lichens and other living things.”
